Writing Center Work

Leadership Experience

Director

University of Jamestown, 2020-present
I manage and train a staff of 9 tutors (undergraduates and adjuncts) in both an on-site and online writing center. I am also responsible for Writing Across the Curriculum initiatives, including including instructional outreaches to various writing-intensive courses and the development of online writing tutorials.

Instructional Outeaches include work with Biology, Engineering, Environmental Science, Kinesiology and Exercize Science, Business, Communications, Criminal Justice and Sociology, and Psychology.

Assistant Director

Marquette University, 2018-2019
I coordinated with the Director and the rest of the Leadership team to plan for staff development and training, manage our online scheduling system, complete payroll, and execute special projects. Projects included drafting the center’s strategic plan and conducting a staff climate survey.

Summer Director

Marquette University, 2018-2019
I served as supervisor for a staff of 15-20 tutors during 4 summer semesters. I was responsible for scheduling, managing our online system, payroll, and organizing summer workshops and outreaches. Summer sessions also included outreach to Equal Opportunity Education programs for high school and college students from traditionally underrepresented populations.

Course Embedded Tutor Commenting Mentor

Marquette University, 2018-2019
I worked with five tutors assigned to two different writing-intensive courses in Philosophy and Experimental Genetics. I discussed strategies for margin and end notes on student drafts and how to use comments as conversation prompts in one-on-one writing consultations.

Writing Across the Curriculum Experience

Library/Writing Center Collaboration

University of Jamestown, 2020-present
I work with the instructional librarian at the Unviersity of Jamestown on crossdisciplinary collaboration to scaffold information literacy and writing skills across campus. We have presented at both writing pedagogy and librarian conferences on our partnership including at the annual conference for the Midwest Modern Language Association and at the North Dakota Library Association annual conferences.

Direct-Entry Nursing Program Collaboration

Marquette University, 2018-2020
I served as the primary contact for faculty in the DE-MSN program to improve graduate student writing and research. This partnership includes coordinating online tutoring schedules for blended (online/in-person) courses, scheduling outreaches to faculty and students, developing materials for tutors working with DE-Nursing students, and conducting research on improving student outcomes in the program through one-on-one writing tutoring. Research on this partnership was presented at Sigma Theta Tau International Research Congress in July 2019.

Business Law Guest Lecturer

Marquette University, 2017-2019
Every fall I present on effective professional writing and the genre of business memos to 2000- and 4000-level sections of Business Law. The lecture includes collaboration with the instructor to determine course outcomes, common pitfalls, and disciplinary conventions.

Engineering Research Posters Workshops

Marquette University, 2018-2020
Every summer I collaborate with the Digital Scholarship Lab and the School of Engineering to lecture on effective research poster design and the genre of academic poster sessions. The presentation includes instruction on multimodal rhetoric, disciplinary conventions, and presentation skills.

(From a client) "It was helpful to know that writing is painful even for professionals. I also appreciate knowing that my writing is the creation of a new body of work that might be shared with my peers."
(From a client) "The feedback I recieved from Danielle on my dissertation chapter enabled me to move forward with the revision process knowing what I needed to focus on, where ideas or points could be further developed, and how I could most effectively organize/structure my chapter. Her feedback was thorough and incredibly insightful."
